Now it's time to dive into your data using Intelligent Exploration. If you are using Virtualitics Explore or Virtualitics Explore Desktop, you are able to load data in a similar way.
Loading Data
You're able to easily load many filetypes into Virtualitics Explore and Virtualitics Explore Desktop. This example will walk us through loading data from a local file. If needed, you can download a sample dataset from the previous step.
First, open your instance of Virtualitics Explore or Virtualitics Explore Desktop.
Next, you'll load your data. For details, click on the dropdown below of the product you are using:
- Click Add Data at the top of the screen or click the Main Menu on the top left and click Load Dataset.
- From the system prompt window, choose the file you'd like to load into the system.
- In the menu bar, click File and then click Load Dataset. Alternatively, in the column on the left side of the screen, click the Local button or click on any recent files below.
- From the system prompt window, choose the file you'd like to load into the system.
Dataset Preview
- Data format
- Delimiter
- Number format
- Edge Weight format (for network data formats)
- Columns (remove headers or select specific columns)
- Rows (choose specific rows or a subsampling)
When you've reviewed and confirmed everything, click Load Dataset.
Spreadsheet View
Once your data has loaded, you'll see the Spreadsheet View window appear. Here, you can review your dataset as a table. You can explore data in the one-dimensional histograms that appear above the columns by simply clicking on each one.
Additionally, in Spreadsheet View, you can:
- Choose whether to show all rows, hidden rows, or visible rows
- Change the names of columns (also known as Features)
- Convert columns into different feature type (numerical or categorical)
- Use Find and Replace to help clean up your data (for example, if you need to convert missing values from being listed as "N/A" to being listed as "missing").
- If needed, export your re-configured dataset by clicking Export Dataset
Once you've reviewed your data, click Explore Data to move into the key view of Virtualitics Explore, known as Mapping View.
