Virtualitics Explore Desktop is compatible with both Oculus Quest and the Oculus Quest 2.
User Types
Virtualitics Explore Desktop is compatible with both Oculus Quest and Oculus Quest 2 with two (2) user types: Leader and Viewer/Collaborator.
Leader
- Connects Virtualitics Explore Desktop to an Oculus Quest Headset.
- A Leader must be tethered or using Oculus Air Link (Quest 2) to work with their own datasets.
- Standalone provides access to sample data only.
- Tethered provides the best performance.
- Air Link is Wi-Fi dependent. WiFi speeds will impact throughput of data.
- Can initiate an SVO session from Virtualitics Explore Desktop or VR Headset.
- Can open and share datasets and collaborate on data visualizations and analysis with other Viewers/Collaborators in an SVO session.
- Can load or save data.
Viewer/Collaborator
- Connects Virtualitics Explore Desktop to an Oculus Quest Headset.
- For the best experience, all users should have Virtualitics Explore Desktop installed and a tethered Oculus Quest Headset.
- Viewers/Collaborators can access the standalone Virtualitics Explore App on an Oculus Quest Headset but keep in mind that this setup provides a limited VR experience.
- Must join a Leader instantiated SVO session to connect to other users and access data
- Cannot cannot instantiate or lead an SVO session.
- Accesses external files through the Leader’s loaded data. (tethered only)
Please follow these instructions to set up either headset.

Installing Virtualitics Explore on Your Oculus Quest/Quest 2
After you’ve set up your Oculus Quest or Quest 2, please follow these steps to install Virtualitics Explore on your device and begin exploring your data.
- Go to the Account Portal and login to your account
- Navigate to the My Account page on the left
- Scroll down to the Tokens and Keys section
- Click on Generate for Oculus Quest Code
Open the Oculus app on the phone that you used to set up your Oculus Quest:
Click on your account icon in the top left of the app to open the menu
Open the Account Settings:
Click on Redeem Store Code:
Enter the 25 digit code that you generated from the Account Portal into this Code section:
Now you can either click install from the app (if the Headset is powered on), or go into the Headset and start the install manually. To install manually, navigate to the Library on your Oculus Quest, where you will now find Virtualitics Explore available for download.
Considerations
Due to the wireless nature of the Oculus Quest, all of the processing and rendering is done locally on the headset itself. This means that there are some performance trade-offs for the freedom of being a standalone device. You will only be able to load datasets with fewer than 130,000 rows; if an Oculus Quest user is in an SVO session with another user who attempts to load in a dataset with more than 130,000 rows, the Oculus Quest user will be removed from the SVO.
Quest settings include a ‘sleep mode’. When running standalone, if the quest headset is taken off and set down, it will go into sleep mode with default settings and disconnect from SVO. If you would like to share the headset with multiple users or take on/off you can increase the time in the Settings > Auto Sleep Headset setting in Quest. This should allow you to set up to 4 hours prior to Auto Sleep mode.
