What Is It?

The Convex Hull plot type is based on a Scatter Plot and adds shapes that outline all points of each color.

Why Is This Important?

Convex Hull plots allow you to nicely visualize groups of data on a single plot and identify regions of overlap or separation. In agriculture, you can view measurements such as leaf height vs stem length grouped by Convex Hulls defined by species. In IoT, you can view sensor data grouped by model number to easily see where each model’s data exists on the plot.

How?

Steps for creating a Convex Hull plot:

  1. To create a Convex Hull plot, drag one feature from the Features list to the X dimension and one feature to the Y dimension.
  2. If you click Apply, you will create a 2D Convex Hull plot, the most basic option. This will show a single Convex Hull encompassing all of your points.
  3. By adding a feature to the Color dimension, you will see multiple Convex Hulls representing areas where each color is more common on your plot.
  4. Adding another feature to the Z dimension will create a 3D Convex Hull plot so that you can understand how even more features are related.
