The Find and Replace tool allows you to find and replace specific cell values in your dataset. This can be useful for data cleansing if you find that your data has some values that are inaccurate.
For example, Find and Replace could be used to standardize uppercase or lowercase for different categories in string categorical fields or replace erroneous numbers with missing values in numerical fields.
Find and Replace is an option when reviewing your data in Spreadsheet View.
Accessing Find and Replace
- Click the Spreadsheet View icon ( ) in the top toolbar.
- Click the Find and Replace button in the upper left.
Finding and Replacing Cell Values
You have the option to require an exact match or allow matches that contain your search phrase. You can also specify whether the case must match or not and whether to only include matches from visible rows.
There are two options for how to find values:
- Column: Use this option if you would only like to find or replace values in specific columns.
- Type: Use this option if you would like to find or replace values in all columns of a certain type.
Once you have selected these options, simply input the value you are wanting to find in the Find What field and, if you'd like to replace that value, input that information in the Replace With field.
Click Find to return the number of occurrences of that particular query. Click Replace to replace all instances of that query with your replacement input.
