Settings lets you personalize how you interact with Virtualitics Explore Desktop.
To access Settings in Virtualitics Explore Desktop, click on the Settings icon ( ) in the top right toolbar.
Available Settings
Settings allows you to customize your experience by adjusting the following preferences:
General | Set specific options and parameters for History, Legend, Statistics, Smart Mapping, Insights, and Spreadsheet View; reset all settings to default |
Account | Manage your account online; sign out |
Plot | Change the axis and default plot options |
Maps | Select configurations for 2D maps and 3D globes |
VR | (Windows only.) Set default Shared Virtual Office environment in VR, add avatar height correction, change touch remote settings |
Appearance | Select a theme, background color, plot colors, and grid box colors |
Audio | Adjust your input and/or output settings |
Data Sources | Adjust query settings and configure remote database connections |
Network | Run network test, configure custom network settings if enabled by your organization, configure enterprise license server connection, configure proxy settings |
Capture | Image Capture preferences: default folder, GIF frame rates, GIF duration, show/hide cursor |
API | Configure Python API and Virtualitics Predict connection |
3D Objects | Edit settings relating to Mesh Colliders and Shader Options for 3D Objects |
Annotations | Modify visual settings for plot annotations |
About | Locate version information and third-party licenses |
Settings Tabs

- Save: Choose to automatically save your work. Set how long you'd like between each save and where you'd like the AutoRecovery file to be stored.
- Number Format: Choose the maximum number of decimal places to display. Also choose whether to show the thousands-place delimiter.

Missing Values: Adjust the Missing Values Warning Threshold and whether to show Missing Values on Color, Shape, and/or Group By.
The missing value warning threshold (default: 50%) will determine how many missing values a column can have before its feature type symbol becomes red, indicating that it is a sparse feature. This can be helpful for quickly dropping all sparse features when running the analytics tools in the software. - History: The default maximum for number of history entries is 50.
- Legend Interaction Mode: When using the Legend Panel, Click to Isolate will isolate your selected category and hide all others, while Click to Hide will hide the selected category and show all others.
- Statistics Sorting: Statistics Sorting gives you the option to sort histograms in the Statistics Panel by Alphabetical order of the bins or by Frequency of the bins.
- Smart Mapping Sorting: Choose between default or legacy Smart Mapping sorting.
- Automatically Refresh Insights: Choose to disable or enable (default) automatic refreshing of Insights whenever information is changed or updated on a Mapping.
- Reset Settings: Reset all General settings to default.
- Account Information: View which account you are currently signed in with, the License Type, and a link to manage your account via the Account Portal. You can also choose to Log Out of your account.
- License: If needed, enter a license key to authenticate a user while offline.
- Telemetry Data: Opt in or out of providing telemetry data to help improve Virtualitics Explore Desktop in accordance with our privacy policy.
- Axis: Change the auxiliary axis’ location on the plot cube and choose whether to show selection lines and labels when a point is selected. Also for Tick Mark display, choose whether to show Trailing Zeros and Legacy Tick Marks.
- Tooltip: Choose whether to show Tooltips on points.
- Rotation: Choose whether to use standard or inverse input for Plot Rotation.
- Default Plot Options: Choose whether to default to 3D or Point Cloud. Also, choose to show or hide Tick Marks and/or Grid Cube. Here, you can also increase Network Graph Edge Subdivisions, which allows you to adjust Edge Curve in Network Graph plot settings.
- Reset Settings: Reset all Plot settings to default.
- General: Choose to show or hide Pins on the map. You can also choose the thickness.
- 2D Maps: Choose your Maps Provider and Map Style. You can also set up a Custom Map Provider by inputting the URL into the text field and ensuring you've chosen Custom as the Maps Provider. You can also clear all cached map tiles.
- 3D Globe: Choose the Globe Style. Also choose whether to show Longitude/Latitude, Country Outlines, and Country Labels.
- Reset Settings: Reset all Map settings to default.
- Environments: Set your default environment in VR.
- Avatar Height: Adjust if your avatar appears too high or too low in VR.
- Touch Remote: Toggle on or off trigger selection and haptic feedback, which can be helpful for certain VR hardware.
- Theme: Choose between Dark and Light.
- Background Color: Choose the background color of the Plot.
- Plot Colors: Choose default Point, Edge, Maps Edge, and Edge Insight colors. Also choose the Edge Alpha (opacity).
- Grid Box Colors: Change the Gridbox, Axis Label, and Tickmark colors.
- Reset Appearance Settings: Reset all Appearance settings to default.
- Speaker: Set your speaker volume for Shared Virtual Office.
- Microphone: Choose your audio input and set the microphone volume for Shared Virtual Office.
- Reset Audio Settings: Reset all Audio settings to default.
- Input Remote Data connection details to load from remote data sources. For more, see Loading Remote Data into Explore.
- Enterprise License Server: Configure an on-premise licensing server.
- Proxy Configuration: Enable and configure Proxy settings.
- Reset Network Settings: Reset all Network settings to default.

Save Location – Choose a location to save any captured image or GIF.

Quality – Choose the quality for a captured image or GIF.

GIF Capture Settings

GIF Framerate: Choose the framerate for a capture GIF (default is 20).

GIF Duration: Choose a duration (in seconds) for a captured GIF.

Show Cursor: Choose whether or not to show the cursor on the captured GIF.

- Reset Settings: Reset all Capture settings to default.
- Python API Server Configuration: Configure your API port and encryption key. You can also choose whether to launch the API server on login, and manually launch or terminate the server. Please see our API documentation for more details about our API.
- Virtualitics Predict Connection: If your Virtualitics deployment includes access to Virtualitics Predict, you can configure the connection between that module and Explore here.
- Reset API Settings: Reset all API settings to default.

- Object Import Settings: Toggle on and off Mesh Colliders (disable this for better performance) and adjust shader options.
- Annotation Settings: Set Window Transparency and Line Depth levels. Also choose whether or not to show Annotations in a Fixed Position, which will keep them in one place regardless of how a Mapping is adjusted.
- Annotation Colors: Choose the default Line Color, which connects an Annotation to a point, and Maps Line Color, which connects an Annotation to a Point when viewing data on a 2D Map or 3D Globe.
- The About section includes Copyright, Version, and Third-Party License information.
