Insights are automatically-generated plain-language observations that are available for Scatter Plots, Histograms, Line Plots, and Network Graphs. Statistically significant regions of data are presented as Insight Cards, which can be easily saved as an Annotation or copied into a presentation.
Insights are useful for minimizing time to value on datasets where exploration and discovery are the main tasks. Additionally, Insights can help call your attention to regions of obscured data points while working with large datasets.
Insights with Different Plot Types
Insights in Virtualitics Explore are available for Scatter Plots, Histograms, Line Plots, and Network Graphs.
Scatter Plots
Insights that are generated for Scatter Plots highlight regions of the graph that show statistically significant distributions of points based on their color. Bar charts are used to highlight the breakdown of points within each region of interest.
Histograms
Insights are generated for Histograms if Virtualitics Explore detects a significant distribution. In these situations, Insights identifies bins that have interesting behaviors based on the breakdown of the colored points that fall within that bin.
Line Plots (Time Series)
Insights for line plots are generated when a mapping has been made in Line Plot mode with distinct lines. These Insights are influenced based on what has been mapped to the X-axis (for example, a column containing dates or times) and show all the groups of lines that are correlated.
The dropdown at the top of the Insights panel can be opened to offer a breakdown per line and highlight which lines are either correlated or anti-correlated.
Network Graphs
Virtualitics Explore offers specific insights to help understand network data. Please refer this article on Network Insights.
Using Insights
To use Insights:
- Click the Insights icon ( ) in the right-side toolbar to open the Insights panel.
- Review the Insight Cards that appear in the Insights Panel. Hovering your cursor over an Insight Card will highlight that area of your visualization.
- Click the Expand button ( ) for more details or click on the Insight Card to expand it and to show only the relevant data points in the visualization.
