Features and Data Types

VIP categorizes your columns into types when you first load in a dataset. We call these categorized columns Features. A feature’s type determines which dimensions can visualize the feature, how data analytics tools interact with the feature, and how certain plot types display the feature.

VIP supports many different data types, such as numerical, categorical, date and URL. Moreover, when possible, you can convert a data type into another.

VIP also categorizes features based on the results generated from the analytics and filter/search tools:

  • ML: Contains results from clustering, anomaly detection, and PCA
  • Filter & Search: Contains results from Search and Create Visible Points Filter
  • Other: Contains features with ‘na’ data type
